Installing ModelWiz on MemoQ

1. Update memoQ to the latest version

  • It will currently work with memoQ version 10.1
  • This should only be done once at the beginning for every single project created on memoQ
  • It should be done by only one person
  • This enables other team members to use the ModelWiz MT plugin

2. Click here to download the installation files.

  • Copy the two files (.dll file and .kgsign file) to C:\Program Files\memoQ\memoQ9.12\Addins
  • Make sure the "Unblock" box is checked in the Properties section of the .dll and .kgsign files, and apply changes.

3. Open the Resource Console (top left) and click on MT settings.

4. Clone the MT Settings template

  • Once in the “MT Settings”, select “Alocai - ModelWiz” and Clone the template
  • In the cloned MT settings, please add the following name structure: “Alocai - ModelWiz - [NAME OF YOUR PROJECT]”

Pre-translating with ModelWiz on MemoQ

11. Pre-translate a file

  • Select "Exact TM or corpus match" (Step 1)
  • Untick "Perform fragment assembly" (Step 2)
  • Click "Use machine translation if there is no other TM or corpus match" (Step 3)

💭 If MT plugins: XX languages – ModelWiz Video Game MT plugin is not available as a machine translation option as shown below (1), please click Select MT plugins (2).

12. Select the languages of your project

13. Check MT results

  • Once these steps are complete, check if the file(s) display(s) machine translation results in the target

Tips and tricks

  • It takes about 3 minutes for ModelWiz to pre-translate 1000 words.

Even if the status bar in memoQ is not progressing, the pre-translation is still being performed and you should wait until the task is complete

  • Cancelling the pre-translation request in memoQ

If for any reason you need to jump into another project, and you need to cancel the pre-translation, don’t worry, whatever the model has been pre-translated until that moment will be populated in your file, you just need to synchronize and resume the pre-translation when you are ready.

  • Change the batch size

The batch size refers to the number of requests that are automatically sent from memoQ to ModelWiz for processing and delivery of information. The default batch size is set to 10 strings in order to optimize MT delivery time. A larger batch size can result in quicker pre-translation, but if there is an issue with one or two strings in the batch, the entire request fails, resulting in no translation for any of the 10 strings! However, reducing the batch size to 1 means that the model will pre-translate one string at a time, and only the problematic string will be excluded from pre-translation while the rest are processed.

To edit the batch size you need to open the file “MemoQ.exe.config” from the memoQ program installed on your computer. Please, contact your memoQ Administrator to do so.

Errors

1. Blue error message

You might see a blue error message in the progress window from memoQ while pre-translating, If you are pre-translating different languages or different files at the same time, memoQ will show in what exact file or language the error is present. This means that the file affected is at the top of the blue error message. The error is caused by different reasons:

  • You lost your internet connection, and some strings couldn’t send the request to ModelWiz
  • Some strings might be too long and the time limit for MW to send a response has timed out
  • There is a typo in the code, and therefore there is no connection between ModelWiz and memoQ

Steps to solve the issue (before contacting Alocai for support):

  1. Wait until all the files are pre-translated
  2. Open the files mentioned in the blue error message
  3. Check if the files are missing all pre-translations or only a few segments
  • If all pre-translations are missing -> Contact us toresolve the issue
  • If your file is only missing a few strings -> Select those strings again and pre-translate them. If the same error happens, contact us
  • When contacting Alocai, please provide the name of your account (only email), memoQ project name, and the language pair.

2. Untranslated strings

If the string is edited, contains some error by mistake while importing the file and you want those strings to be machine-translated, select them and “clear all the translations” and pre-translate them as usual using MT

💭 Select all strings:

Use this shortcut to save you some time: Ctrl+Shift+A

💭 Filtering strings

Filtering strings can be your best friend to identify what hasn’t been pre-translated, or to check all the strings which have been machine-translated.
